In a bid to aid the building of a eco-friendly mobility network in Bengaluru, state-owned GAIL Gas is set to launch 12 new CNG stations in the city, adding to the extant eight CNG stations. This would take the total count of operational stations in the city to 20, reports Hindu BusinessLine.

Not stopping the momentum after this, GAIL also plans to add 25 more CNG stations in the new fiscal 2019-20 itself, which would mark an unprecedented rise in the accessibility of CNG for the Bengaluru consumers.

Furthermore, in order to make the CNG fuel easily available, the GAIL Gas has also partnered with oil marketing companies (OMCs) and is dispensing CNG From the retail outlets of BPCL, IOCL and HPCL in the city.

The running cost of a CNG auto is Rs 1.17 per km compared with Rs 2.01 per km of LPG auto, resulting in savings of about 42 per cent. Also, CNG stations cater to both light and heavy duty vehicles and are operational round the clock.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been aggressively pushing towards turning India into a cleaner and gas-based economy, with lesser reliance on polluting fuels like diesel and petrol. The GAIL’s expansion in Bengaluru adds to that goal and direction.
